Going beyond the curriculum

At UK Schooling, we believe that students should have the opportunity to delve deeper into their favourite subjects and go beyond school curricula. This is why, every year, we partner with Oxford and Cambridge colleges, students and graduates to organise enhancing, interactive and fun residential summer camps.

Our 2023 academic summer camp for students aged between 13 and 18 will take place at the wonderful Lucy Cavendish College in Cambridge between 9 July and 5 August. During this two-week camp, students will benefit from expert teaching in their chosen course, a chance to visit taster sessions in other subjects and a wide range of academic skills workshops and guest lectures.

Our residential summer camp in Cambridge is a great way to explore areas of your subject you have not yet discovered and prepare for sixth form and university applications. We have a carefully curated programme of courses on offer this year which also focus on giving students insight into university subjects that are not taught within schools. These include:

  • Maths, Physics and Engineering
  • Biological Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Earth Sciences)
  • Exploring Medicine
  • English Literature and Creative Writing
  • Financial Maths, Economics and Business
  • Computer Science and Robotics
  • Law and Politics
  • Psychology
  • Business, Innovation and International Leadership
  • Architecture, Art and Design

This summer camp is unique in that students can also benefit from the expertise of specialised mentors who will be able to help students plan for their academic futures. This involves not only supporting them with applying to top UK universities but also guiding students in their choice of GCSE and A-Level subjects.

University application mentoring scheme

In addition to our much-loved summer camps, UK Schooling also offers an online university application mentoring scheme. This is where students are paired with one of our expert tutors who will work with you to develop a tailored learning plan.

Our mentors help you select a course and advise on which universities you should apply for. They will then give you resources and advice for writing an outstanding personal statement. This involves making suggestions as to which super-curricular activities might be of interest to you. For students applying for STEM courses, our tutors often recommend that you get involved with The Oxford Scientist Schools Competition.

Your mentor will then help you in preparing for any admissions exams or interviews you may have. Applying to university can be a stressful process, but our aim is to give you the confidence you need by ensuring you are as prepared as possible for the process.

Our partnership with The Oxford Scientist

Our ethos at UK Schooling aligns with the values behind The Oxford Scientist Schools competition. We want students to get involved in super-curricular activities that interest them, encourage them to be creative in putting forward their own ideas and to explore how their studies have relevance in the real world. We believe that the Schools Competition organised by The Oxford Scientist is a fantastic opportunity for students and we are very proud to be a part of this project.

If you are a student thinking about studying science at university then we would definitely encourage you to participate in this wonderful competition! Good luck!
